UNILAG ON SMOOTH SAILING

The management of the University of Lagos, Akoka, says it is impressed with the level of students’ compliance with the conditions laid out for their reabsorption into the campus.

This is contained in a statement by the Deputy Registrar, Information Unit of the institution, Mr Toyin Adebule and issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.

According to the statement, a total of 19,373 students had downloaded the indemnity forms as at 12.30 p.m. on Friday, April 29.

It said that contrary to the resistance put up by the proscribed students’ union leaders of the institution, the students had been besieging their faculties to sign the necessary forms ahead of resumption.

NAN reports that the senate of the University had, on April 25, announced that the institution would resume full academic activities on May 2.

It had earlier been shut on April 7 following students’ unrest due to poor electricity and water supply in the community.

The senate, announcing the reopening, had, however given the students some conditions to comply with.

One of the conditions given to them was to visit the university’s website and download the undertaking and indemnity form.

The students were also asked to submit the forms at the various departments and obtain clearance.

According to the statement, students will only be allowed to participate in the 2015/2016 first semester examination as well as gain access into their respective halls of residence on completion of the process. (NAN)

MASS FAILURE IN CEDR 341, as the results looms

There was an utter silence in the faculty of engineering lecture hall today as they had their first CEDR 342 Class  today the 28th of April 2016.
The Class started in a very aggressive manner at exactly 8am,despite the bad weather. The lecturer whose name will not be mentioned for security reasons, was very hostile with the students as he claimed that the students failed to make  him proud in the last concluded  CEDR 341 exams.
Before the commencement of the lecture, he gave an overview of the results though not released but believed to have been submitted to the departments for processing, He said: You People failed woefully, the highest person in Electrical Engineering department scored 23/70 , Electronic Engineering department scored 22/70, Mechanical Engineering scored 18/70 while MetMat have the least score of 16/70. From his statements he was deeply disappointed on the students whom he claimed refused to read their texts and went ahead reading the popular ILOVICTOR summary.. He adviced the students to avoid shortcuts to success,as the Cedr text is the only password to an 'A' ,in the course.
He adviced the students to take this semester course very seriously and avoid every shortcut to success, he made them understand the bulkiness of the course and it's abstract nature..studying hard and in between the line is the only way to make it in the course CEDR 342,he said.

When we conducted some analysis; Over the years, Engineering students are known for their excellent and brilliant academic performance, how could their be such a massive failure as claimed by this lecturer?
If these Engine guys who are known for 'jacking' and  'smashing' could perform so poorly as he claimed, then what will be the faith of our other brethren over there..

In our interview with one of the students who was in the class and also had wrote the exam last semester, he claimed that exam 'too technical' as the examiners went off the track in the manner in which the exam is been set as compared to that of previous years..,the results are not yet out, and our hopes are still high,we always believe that will be some positive results when the results will be out.

HMO CALLS FOR REVIEW OF NHIS

A Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO), Ultimate Health Management Services, has called on the Federal Government to review the law establishing the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) “in order to make it compulsory for all citizens.”

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Organisation, Dr Lekan Ewenla, made the call in an interview with the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

Ewenla said that health insurance should be part of government’s system to ensure that the general populace accessed health by achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

According to him, health insurance programmes should be part of the requirements to get individuals opportunity into any stage in national life.

He said “there is need for the law establishing NHIS to be reviewed to make health insurance compulsory.

“In any clan where you see health insurance or policy working, the compliance and enforcement apparatus are regularly reviewed, enhanced and enforced.

“Once it becomes part of the requirements to get enrolled as a student in school, to acquire a stall as a trader in a shopping mall, or as a trader in the market, you see that everybody will comply.”

He, however, added that it was crucial for NHIS to focus more on its regulatory responsibility which ensured that HMOs complied with healthcare delivery protocols to enrollees.

He added that the regulatory function of the scheme would engender enforcement and compliance among the citizenry as well.

According to him, there is the lack of coordination in the scheme in spite of the consideration by the Federal Government to capture the informal sector into health insurance programmes.

He said that the government needed to engage the various groups that made up the informal sector and majority of the populace for compliance.

Ewenla noted that “right now, government at the federal level is seriously considering the need to capture the informal sector into the formal sector because majority of Nigerians are in that bracket.

“And most people in that bracket are not paying tax to government and majority of them are not partaking in things that will enhance the development of the country.

“The only way we can expand health insurance in the country is when we have a means of capturing the informal sector that are the largest in terms of population.”

Established in 2005, the NHIS was originally targeted at civil servants and workers in the private sector but efforts were being made to include all Nigerians.

UNN SUG SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ELECTION UPDATES(THE DEN DECIDES..PART TWO)

As the ongoing UNN SUG elections continues on Monday for the Senate and House of  Representatives, The UNECO body have released the list of the successful candidates to contest for the various offices along with the requirements for voting during the Election which is scheduled to hold on Monday 11th April 2016 at the various faculty hall at 9am.
                                             REQUIREMENT FOR VOTING:
According to prof. P.A Akah, The Dean , Student Affairs department who is also the chairman, University of Nigerian Electoral commission  ( UNECO), all eligible voters should present the following documents for accreditation and voting:

(1) Student ID Card( Any UNN based ID card, that is UNN ID card, Faculty ID card, or Departmental ID card).

(2) School fees receipt for 2015/2016 session or online school fees print out, authenticated and stamped by the faculty officer.

(3) Online course Registeration Form for 2015/2016 academic session.

Our agent gathered that the accreditation and elections started as early as 9am as scheduled and the election was a great success apart from the minor hitches had at Eni-Njoku hall, which was resolvd amicably.

The Students of the University Of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), will on Friday, 8^th April 2016 decideby voting,who becomes their New Hall Executives from the respected Ladies and Gentlemen who have indicated interest to be elected as the New Hall Executives of the various Halls in the University. 

This marked the kicks-off, of the scheduled Student Government Elections, recently published in the school website by the Student Affairs Department of the University.
