Prof Edoba Omoregie emerges 11th VC of UNIBEN


The authorities of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, have appointed Professor Edoba Omoregie as the new Vice-Chancellor of the university.

DAILY POST reports that the appointment of the professor of constitutional law and governance as the Vice Chancellor of the institution was announced by
Prof. Shaibu Umaru, Chairman of the Governing Council.

Omoregie’s appointment was announced on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the main campus of the university, in Benin City.

Omoregie, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) would takes over from the incumbent VC, Prof. Lillian Salami, whose tenure ends on December 1, 2024.

Chairman of the Governing Council, Umaru said Omoregie emerged as the 11th Vice-Chancellor of the university out of 27 persons that applied for the position.

Omoregie, a native of Benin, was born on April 5, 1969, and attended the University of Benin for his first, second, and third degrees.

He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992 and was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, in 2021.
