Former chairman of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mohammed Bawa Niworo, has regained his freedom after spending eight months in captivity.

The APC chieftain was abducted around September last year along the New Bussa-Mokwa road near IBB University in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.According to reports, the kidnappers initially demanded N150m ransom.

The family reportedly paid N30m in December, but he was not released.Reports said the kidnappers later reduced their demand and threatened to kill him because he was sick.

Details of the release are yet to be made available at press time.
