The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sokoto State University (SSU) chapter, has officially called off its indefinite strike, paving the way for the immediate resumption of academic activities.
The decision was reached during a congress held on Thursday at Lecture Hall 2, Faculty of Arts. During the meeting, ASUU members reviewed the outcomes of a March 4, 2025, conciliation meeting between the Sokoto State Government and ASUU leadership.
After extensive deliberations on the government’s proposals, members of the union voted in favor of suspending the strike. The ASUU National Executive Council subsequently endorsed the decision.
ASUU SSU Chairperson, Saidu Abubakar, alongside Secretary, Hassan Aliyu, confirmed the resolution, directing all academic staff to return to work without delay.
The strike, which commenced on February 26, 2025, was triggered by unresolved disputes with the state government. Although details of the agreement remain undisclosed, the suspension signals progress in addressing the union’s demands.
With this development, students and lecturers at SSU can now prepare for the restoration of normal academic activities after weeks of disruption.
