The Jigawa State House of Assembly has passed a supplementary budget of one hundred and sixteen billion, nine hundred and thirty-five million, three thousand, four hundred and seventy-eight Naira (N116,935,003,478.00) into law.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, said the assembly considered the supplementary budget sent by the executive after the recommendation of the appropriation committee on Thursday.
He said the approval followed the state executive’s request for the consideration of the amount as a supplementary budget.
DAILY POST reports that Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, signed a budget of N298.14 billion for the state and the 27 local governments for 2024.
According to him, “The House led by Hon Ibrahim Hamza recommended the approval of the state and local government supplementary budgets to enable the executive to deliver the much-expected dividends of democracy.”
“Given the current inflation, the executive needs additional money to execute capital projects and strengthen public service delivery in line with Governor Umar Namadi’s 12-point agenda.”
He explained that the sum of eighty-five billion, four hundred and ten million Naira (N85,410,000,000.00) was approved for the state government.
“This includes N7,377,000,000.00 for recurrent expenditure and N78,003,000,000.00 for capital projects. Under the additional money for capital projects, N35.8 billion is allocated to the Ministry of Works and Transport, N4.4 billion to the State Emergency Management Agency, and N7.9 billion to the Road Maintenance Agency.”
“Other allocations include N2.5 billion for agriculture, N2 billion for rural electrification, N2.4 billion for the environment, N4.2 billion for the Ministry of Health, N4.6 billion for higher education, and N500 million for basic education.”
The state assembly also approved the sum of thirty-one billion, five hundred and twenty-five million, three thousand, four hundred and seventy-eight Naira (N31,525,003,478.00) as supplementary budgets for the 27 local government areas of the state.
