The National Universities Commission (NUC), says there has been notable progress in the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into the Nigerian educational system.
The acting Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Chris Maiyaki revealed this in Kaduna on Tuesday at the opening of the 1st NTI Annual National Conference 2023.
The conference has as its theme: ”Re-directing the Focus of Education Stakeholders Towards Modern Process of Producing Competent, Dedicated and Professional Teachers in Nigeria”.
The executive director, represented by Prof. Mohammed Yahaya of the University of Ibadan, said since 2009, NUC has been leading the way in the implementation of many programmes designed to integrate Open and Distance Learning (ODL) approaches in accordance with international best practice
He stated that these programmes had given university employees the ability to use technology to improve student engagement.
Maiyaki said, “Additionally, the establishment of ODL Centers by universities has expanded access to education, making it more inclusive.
“The NUC’s efforts extended beyond ICT, as it has also paved the way for the establishment of Private Open Universities, fostering digital learning and ICT-driven educational delivery.”
