Promotion will now be based on pupils’ academic performance – Ondo govt to teachers

Ondo State Government has disclosed plans to implement a performance bond for public primary school teachers in the state by tying their promotion to the academic performance of pupils.

The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Victor Olabimtan, who revealed this, stated that the new system is part of the comprehensive approach by the state government to enhance the scholastic outcomes of students and the quality of education in the state.

During an interactive session with Education Secretaries from the 18 local government areas of the state at the headquarters of the board in Akure, the state capital, Olabimtan, stressed that the implementation of the performance bond is aimed at motivating teachers to invest more effort into students’ learning and academic progress.

According to the SUBEB boss, who said the move will improve the performance of students in the Common Entrance Examination into public secondary schools in the state, the government has expressed its commitment to imposing stiffer penalties on teachers who abscond from duties.

“Consequently, from the next year on, no teacher will be promoted to the next grade levels, especially from 13 and above, without empirical evidence that the wards under him or her performed very well in their examinations.”

He stated that government will no longer pretend as if all is well with the system or turn a blind eye.
