Subsidy removal – 200,000 families to benefit from food palliatives – Zamfara govt


Zamfara State Executive Council, headed by Governor Dauda Lawal, on Tuesday, announced that 200,000 families will benefit from palliatives.

Addressing newsmen shortly after an exco meeting, Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Nakwada said, “as part of the resolutions by the Council, 200,000 vulnerable families in the State will benefit from food stuff as one the palliative measures to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government.”

According to him, some categories of civil servants in the State would be considered for a similar gesture in an appropriate arrangement for the palliative programme.

The Executive Council also approved the immediate provision of 50 palliative buses for a start and another ten 52-seater Marcopolo buses in order to reduce transportation problems for students in the State.

He added that primary school pupils in particular, are to enjoy free transportation under the new palliative arrangement.

Speaking further, the SSG said the Council reviewed its efforts in securing the lives and properties of the people of the State.

He explained that Governor Lawal used the council meeting to give marching orders to the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Commerce and Industries and Ministry of Health to use their findings and suggestions from the current needs assessment and immediately swing into action to ensure effective service delivery and maximum success of their ministries.

“Other commissioners have been tasked to take full charge and responsibilities of their ministries,” he said.
