The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Kwara State Sector, is mobilising 950 personnel for the Eid el-Fitr celebration in the state.
Aside from the personnel, operational equipment to curb road crashes and gridlocks during the festivity will also be deployed, according to a statement by the corps’Public Education Officer, Basambo Olayinka Busari, in Ilorin on Wednesday.
The personnel and equipment include 322 Special Marshals, 27 patrol vehicles, two power bikes, four ambulances and a 70-ton tow truck, to monitor all roads during the Eid el-Fitr celebration.
The statement informed that the State Sector Commander, Fredrick Ade Ogidan, has deployed personnel for traffic control at strategic locations within Ilorin township and major cities in the state for the Eid el-Fitr special patrol scheduled to start from 20th to 25th April 2023.
The sector commander urged motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations and avoid excessive speeding, overloading, obstruction, use of phones while driving, passenger manifest violation, operation of mechanically deficient and rickety vehicles, and route violation among others.
To achieve free flow of traffic and reduction in road crashes during the festivities, heavy tow-truck, ambulances and rescue marshals will be stationed along major highways within the state, the statement added.
According to the statement, the operation is targeted towards achieving a 5% Reduction in road traffic deaths and injuries, being the Corps 2023 Corporate Strategic Goal 1.
