Banji Alabi, the Chairman, Governing Council of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), has been suspended by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu over insubordination.
The suspension of Alabi was hinged on the report of the Visitation Panel earlier set up by the governor for the institution which disclosed that Alabi refused to honour its invitation on series occasions.
Akeredolu made the suspension known while receiving the report of the 7-member Visitation Panel to the Polytechnic.
According to the Governor, “the Chairman stands suspended until I hear from him.”
“We have intervened on one or two occasions and we gave money with specific instruction to pay salaries. At the end of the day you cannot still complete salary payment. I’m sure your report will contain this.”
On his part, Professor Olabode Kolade Koriko, the panel’s chairman, lauded Akeredolu for deciding that the panel’s formation was important as he presented the panel’s report on Thursday in the governor’s office.
Prof. Koriko commended the governor for releasing over N1.6 billion as a bailout for the Polytechnic, as praised the Governor for his dedication to repositioning the Polytechnic and bringing it back to its former glory.
The Chairman disclosed that, as part of its mandate, the Panel met and spoke with pertinent Polytechnic and host community stakeholders at various Owo locations before coming to its recommendations.
