Niger NUP urges Gov Bello to restrain tertiary education ministry from handling pension matters

The Niger State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has urged the state Governor, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello to, as matter of urgency, restrict the Ministry for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology from handling pension-related matters.

It also called on him to restore the full functions of pension board from the ministry.

The union made the call in a communique at the end of an emergency council meeting signed by the chairman, Comrade Isyaku S. Ndagi, and Secretary, Comrade Abdullahi Baba Sani, in Minna.

The communique said during the meeting,”deliberations on some lingering issues affecting Pensioners both in the state and local government areas, and commended the efforts of organized Labor in engaging the state government on retirees welfare, especially as it affects payment of pension and gratuity.”

“The Nigeria Union of Pensioners align completely with the position of the organized Labor as contained in their letters to the Governor”.

The state pensioners also called on the state assembly to heed the call by the organized labour to amend the Contributory Pension Scheme law by expunging the alien retrospective clause inserted in the law in order to unfairly co-opt civil servants that were domesticated in the state.

It further appealed to retirees in the state to give their maximum co-operation and understanding to the organized labour and the union to enable it to pursue their legitimate benefits with the state government.
