Kidnappers kill victim, ransom bearer after collecting N9m in Adamawa

Kidnappers of a village head in Adamawa State have killed the village head and a relative sent to deliver ransom for his release.

The kidnappers first abducted the village head of Bengo in the Fufore Local Government Area, Sallau Manu, and demanded ransom, following which a relative: Joram Bengo, a lecturer with the Federal College of Education (FCE) Yola, took N2 million to them.

The kidnappers after collecting the N2 million did not only keep the village head, but they also held back the lecturer and demanded further ransom.

DAILY POST gathered the incident took place three weeks ago.

A family member who spoke on the development on Monday, said, “Joram Bengo took the N2 million ransom to them sometime around September 25th, but they refused to release either him or our village head.

“They contacted us again demanding additional money and we struggled to raise N7 million and sent to them after several assurances that he would be released to us.

“Sadly, however, we found his decomposing remains on the foot of Bagale hills Sunday evening.”

The village head’s body had earlier been found in similar circumstances.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje has confirmed the story, saying officers of the state Police Command are on it.

“We are currently investigating to ascertain whether some of the kidnappers neutralised at the weekend were part of the syndicate that killed Joram Bengo or not,” Nguroje said.

The state police command had last Friday announced the killing of five suspected kidnappers but the command had said the suspects were terrorising the Mubi axis, namely Mubi North and Mubi South LGAs in the northern part of the state.
