ASUU: Kaduna University lecturers ignore El-rufai’s threat, remain at home

Academic Staff Union of University, (ASUU), Kaduna State University ( KASU) branch, has refused to resume classes despite threat by Governor Nasir El-Rufai to sack them.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai, had a few days ago, during a media chat in Kaduna State, vowed to sack any lecturer of the Kaduna State University (KASU), who continued to partake in the ongoing nationwide strike.

After the threat, the Management of the school had asked students to resume classes for their examination.

Some KASU students responded by going to the school to sit for their examinations, under the supervision of the Vice Chancellor and other staff of the institution.

But ASUU members (lecturers) refused to resume. According to them, they see no reason for the resumption since the national body and all other universities were still on strike.

ASUU, KASU branch, in a ‎resolution issued at the end of its Congress in Kaduna, said there were irregularities during the examination.

The branch chairman, Comrade Peter Adamu and Comrade Usman Abbas, the Secretary, who signed the resolution, noted that the union would compile all the infractions and irregularities noticed in the conduct of few examinations that took place and forward them to the National University Commission.

He said members of ASUU-KASU did not participate in the conduct of any examination in the university because of the ongoing strike and have remained committed, resolute and uncompromising in the struggle.

He further stated that all forms of violation of the strike by members were being recorded and disciplinary action in accordance with the constitution of the union, would be applied appropriately at the appropriate time.

However, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Ashafa, said as far as the institution was concerned, KASU-ASUU was only in solidarity with the Federal Universities because they were not directly affected by the issues which caused the strike.

He further urged the ASUU-KASU to be patriotic, adding that “our students have been at home for over five months with no sign that this thing will be resolved.”
