Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni has called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yobe State University chapter, to reconsider its position on the ongoing protracted industrial action.
The Governor made the call in a statement signed by his spokesman, Mamman Mohammed while reacting to the promotion of some academic staff of the varsity to the ranks of Professors and Associate Professors.
He said the need to call off the strike was long overdue in the interest of the State and its future.
“Yobe State has its peculiar challenges occasioned by the insecurity suffered by the State and the negative effects on education.
“We, therefore, need to come together to collectively salvage the situation in the interest of our young ones and the future of the State,” Gov. Buni appealed to the union.
He congratulated the newly promoted academic staff and urged them to justify their promotion by making the institution a reference center in academic excellence.
