The Emir of Dutse, Jigawa State, His Highness Dr. Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi has called on Nigerian women to pursue education to fight for their rights in Governance and other areas.
The Emir who was represented by the senior counsellor of the emirate, Basiru Nuhu Sanusi (Galadiman Dutse) made the call when he received the Jigawa Education Partners in his palace.
The Emir stated this while reacting to the condition of girl child education in Jigawa State, especially in rural areas.
He explained that girls’ education is crucial to the development of any given society and the whole Nation.
“It is quite unfortunate that girl child education has not been receiving the desired attention in this country, and it’s believed that when you educate a man, you educate one, but when you educate a woman, you educate a nation.” the Emir stated.
“Street Hawking is another problem that is contributing towards reducing girls enrollment into schools, especially in rural areas which may be associated with the level of poverty and ignorance”
The Emir urged the Jigawa state House of Assembly to enact a law that will prevent street Hawking and improve girls’ enrolment, retention, transition and completion of schooling.
According to him” women are always complaining about marginalization in Governance and other areas and it is only when you are educated you will be given such opportunities” the Emir stated.
” Be educated and fight for your rights, nobody will fight it for you, contest political positions, you have the right to vote and be voted and about 80 to 90 votes are from you”
” In some places, women are governors, presidents and some are holding other key positions in governance just because their women are educated”
He, however, assured the Emirate’s support in the promotion of girl child education.
Earlier the team leader of Education Partners, Tasiu Abubakar said they were in the palace as part of their state-wide consultation and assessment for promoting girls’ education in the state.
