Sylvester Oromoni: Ex-Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi condemns gruesome act

Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Bolaji Abdullahi has joined other well meaning Nigerians to express anger over the gruesome murder of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni in a Lagos school last week.

In a chat with DAILY POST in Ilorin, Bolaji Abdullahi described the incident as tragic.

The former minister also condemned the failure of the school’s management to look over the safety of the school’ s children and their handling of the matter as expected.

He said the incident “is a challenge to parents not to put too much trust in schools in respect of their children’s welfare and safety.”

Bolaji advised parents to be vigilant and keep a close watch over their children and wards.

Narrating his experience as a former Commissioner for Education in Kwara State under former Governor Bukola Saraki, Bolaji said he handled a similar incident in one of the schools in Ilorin, the State capital.

He said an aggrieved military man stormed the school to deal with the teacher who disciplined his child but the case was handled diligently by the then government.

Bolaji said the military man was eventually demoted for his unruly conduct and aggression on the school.

He commended the Lagos State government for doing the needful by closing down the school and hoped that justice would be served.

Recall that Sylvester Oronomi was allegedly brutally murdered by a group of five senior students of Dowen College at Lekki in Lagos State.

He reportedly refused joining a cult group and paid the supreme price for it.
