Nigerians should demand genuine democracy – Erubami

Mashood Erubami, the President, Nigeria Voters Assembly (VOTAS) has urged Nigerians to demand genuine democracy.

Erubami, a former President of Campaign for Democracy (CD) made the call in his statement to commemorate June 12.

He said as citizens remember MKO Abiola, they must insist on true federalism and power devolution.

The activist noted that the realization would unbundle the Federal Government of its exclusive executive lists.

Erubami said fiscal federalism would authenticate control of revenues, create State Police, boost agriculture, health, infrastructure, education among others.

He recalled that Abiola identified issues hindering the country’s development and was ready to fix them.

The VOTAS leader regretted how the annulment of the June 12 election crushed the hope of Nigerians.

“1993 was to be a year of fulfillment for the ethnic nationalities, youths, women, and every citizen. It was planned that hunger and poverty were to end in Nigeria.

“There is more disunity, ethnic rules, and religious bigotry prevailed more than ever before!” He said.

Erubami added that death of Abiola, the murder of his wife, Kudirat and other democrats during the struggle will never be forgotten.
