“For us journalists, the story is ours to tell, and I urge you to use your practice to tell Nigeria’s story positively. The young ones who are still studying to become journalists must be taught the responsibility that awaits them when they begin their practice.”
A veteran journalist, brand and marketing analyst, Mrs Kasie Abone who was the jubilee lecturer spoke on the need for training among Mass Communication practitioners.
Kasie, a journalist with THISDAY newspaper urged students of the department to always update and enhance their knowledge through training and retraining, even after school.
“This underscores the importance of training for Mass Communication practitioners. You cannot achieve excellence in any field of endeavour without adequate training.
“Training therefore simply means equipping yourself with basic tools of knowledge or skill-sets needed to perform the task at hand.
“It could be through structured learning, as is seen in informal education institutions or hands-on or mentoring by a professional, like on the job, in-house), Internship or others, to gain professional experience. It could also be through e-learning, workshops, seminars, etc.”
